matrix infinity - dvd region free not working ?

I have just installed a matrix infinity into a v9 pal ps2 and
I tried a r1 dvd but all I get is the dvd screen saying this is an incorrect
region disc.

can anyone tell me if this may be a wire on the chip installled incorrectly
or another reason for this ?

it boots everything else as far as I can tell
