Matrix Autoboot/Manager Problem

I Just modded my V.5/6 PS2 w/ the Matrix Infinity 1.36 modchip. I can load up backups fine but I have to do the fast boot for PS2 backups (push select) and force PS1/DVD (push circle) during boot up to get them to work. When I try to enter the config menu (triangle+Circle), it tries to boot up but then goes back to the PS2 splash/explorer page. Also, I have to disable the chip to play original PS2 games (don't know if that's normal).

Any hints on what wires I may have screwed to lose the autoboot feature and the config menu feature?

I would try to downgrade to another firmware version and see if it does the same. Sometimes these firmware versions do not work the same accross all ps2 versions.
