Can Someone please help. I think i just screwed my ps2, i was soldering in my millenium and on one of the chips the solder point let go. The chip is very small (1mmx2mm) and the solder points are under the chip, is it possible to fix this, and i seem to be having a real hard time getting anything to stick any tips. Thanks.

I myself have done this also. What I did to fix it is heat some solder to the bottom of the chip then place the chip where you need it to go and for a VERY brief moment place the soldering tip on top of the chip (If the chip is one of the metal kind) and it will melt the solder and should stick. If the chip is not metal or aluminum then do not do this. What kind of soldering pencil are you using and what watage are you using?

That's like trying to crack a nut with a sledgehammer!

I'm sure experienced solderers would have little problem using a 30w with a standatd tip. But if you're not in that category then, (and I speak from experience) you are doing yourself no favors whatsoever by using the wrong tools. You'll likely have more problems where the heat from the iron will remove the components from the board or where you're bridging components you're not supposed to.

Find a 15-18w with the narrowest tip you can get. Unfortunately with cheap irons you'll find that the tip cools down too quickly even when you're soldering small points. So you hold the tip to be board longer which leaks more heat into the board until sometimes the components break loose.

If you're going to be doing a lot of this sort of work then investing in good kit will save you lots of frustration.
If you're doing this just for you then it's arguable that you're better off sending your machine away and getting it modded.

Buying a good soldering station was a revelation for me! (Weller esd51).

Or if you do buy the 15w soldering pencil from Radio shack the tip is alittle larger. Al you have to do is get a metal file and file that sucker down to a fine point. Your bound to fry your board sooner or later with the iron your using now
