  1. #1 Major error...verticle color bars on boot

I was finishing installing a Magic 3.6 chip on a ps2 v4 no-gap and accidently got my soldering iron caught under a wire and lifter the pad of a via off the bottom of the board. It was the 'A' pad on the bottom side of the board. I tried to boot the system and nothing happened so I tried soldering a wire to what was left of the pad and the other end of the wire to another 'A' point on the board. When I boot the system now, I get a beeping sound and the screen has colored verticle bars across it, similar to a color test pattern on a tv set or pc monitor. Any ideas what is going on and how I can fix it?
    Thank you,
    Brian

I saw that before ... but only on V1/V2 consoles ...
You might have now a solder splatter near the point ... maybe some bent pins also .. can you get a picture of the board damage ?

I have been given a v10 console which is doing almost the same thing but it makes a terriblt noise when the drive is seeking. When I got it the magic chip had been removed and there are no bridged pins but one or two capacitors look a bit suspect.
Apparently it worked fine for ages then stopped. I am going to have a better look tonight and will post some pics of any bad points.
I think it is a write off though.

I haven't got round to re wiring it yet as I have only just got it. At the moment the unit is as new and still gives the test pattern. The appearingly damaged capacitor is the 3.3v for the MXL2 chip.

Some one else has said that the test mode can be entered if you damage the DVD controller pins. Is the DVD controller the LA6/BA5 chip or is that just the laser driver? The LA6 chip on my board looks as if it has heat damage.
