Magic3 stopped working?
Magic3 stopped working? –

My Magic3 (brand new V7) has performed pretty well since it was installed a month ago. Last night I started it up and all I get is a black screen. The reset/eject lights work and the drive will eject - but no joy on seeing the browser or having the unit work. Has the chip gone bad?

Did you use heavier gauge wire for power and ground?
Unfortunately there is no way of knowing if the chip has gone bad without putting it into another PS2 or finding something wrong with the PS2.
For example, theoretically, if you drew your power from a point not designed for the load imposed by the Magic 3, you can blow something on the pS2. So with references to the fuses in the FAQ you are going to have to check those too.

It ran fine for over a month. The wires were the correct gauge. Should I just uninstall the chip to test if the PS2 would work? Or is there a less invasive way to troubleshoot?

I just had the very same problem. Installed the magic a month ago, it was working very fine. And monday I was playing, hit reset and then black screen ???
I just disassembled the chip, the console was working fine. And today I put my chip into the ps2 again. I ve no more black screen
But I got a new problem, my console boot everything except Ps 2 cdr backup
if u got an idea of which wire got to check ?

I ve done some test and it seems that when u get black screen is when one of ur point on the chip near the dvd is not good. In my opinion u should check these one but it s only supposition

I had the exact same experience as you. My magic 2 was working great for a couple of months then one day it refused to boot any thing and I can not get the browser , only a black screen. I found out that the ground wire worked it way loose. Once I resoldered it; everything was ok again.

BA chip doesn't affect the screen - swirling electrons should at least appear.
