I just posted this on http://www.backup-source.com
I don't know if it's 100% true or anything, but it's my opinion, and my belief. Please comment on this. I also posted this one of the other forums here because I seem to feel the need (I do it a lot, sorry )
"...I'd also like to say that we believe our chips play DVD9 (dual layered) games just fine. In fact, I believe that ALL magic3's do. People with v1-4 may report problems, simply because of the older lasers used in those machines. People with v1-4 have been reporting problems with DVD9 movie discs since day 1, and it has nothing to do with modchips. Sony has simply decided to take a risk and hope that they can get away with introducing the newer discs for their games, but in reality they (and I) knew that this would happen after all the trouble with DVD9 movies (as reported on many websites, and even IGN magazine).
Xenosaga (original disc, believed to be DVD9, I couldn't check myself for sure) has been tested on a v7, and worked fine. However on a v3 it would only boot some of the times it was tested.
If this turns out to be true as we suspect it is, then getting a Messiah2 will not help you. You will suffer the same symptoms as anyone with any other modchip. I guess modchip.ca was just trying to make us think that they somehow got ahold of "better" chips than the rest of us, and the Messiah2 team was just using scare tactics to get more customers =/ "
