Magic3 chip problem or PS2 problem?
Magic3 chip problem or PS2 problem? –

I've installed a magic3.0 blue chip on my SCPH-39001 ps2. Now everything boot ok, only one problem, when running certain game, (e.g. Dark Cloud 2), sometimes it freeze when entering a scene which require reading disc a lot. The music is still on, just the game stopped. Reset the machine and go back to the same point, it may work ok, but after several hours it may freeze again when entering the same scene.
I have checked the solder points carefully. All solder points seem to be ok. Is this problem caused by magic3 chip? Or overheating of PS2 itself?

The Magic3 chip isn't very good. It is overheating. Best thing to do is install a external switch to turn the chip off after you boot the game.

magic 3.0 does not overheat. It is just a bug in the magic 3.0 that was fixed in the magic 3.1

So will it work if I install a switch to turn the chip off after boot? Or I have to replace the modchip with magic 3.1 or messiah2?
