I first tried installing a Messiah2, then realized that I'm not about to unsolder the 4 power posts...so i try using this magic3.
The problem is that the diagram [from modchip.ca and magic3.backup-source.com] for the proper board shows the points for the non-gap rom and this PS2 is a gap rom 010 bios. It plays normal games, but does not play any backups [cd/dvd]...the same backups that boot flawlessly in a magic3.0 v7.
Everything is in order, all wires check okay, no shorts between wires. The only problem is that the v1 diagrams are either 'datecode 1a or 1c' for the 2 diagrams...and this one is a 0d, same as the 1a diagram.
Please don't tell me THEY messed up and this chip still isn't 100% compatible... If I can't get this resolved in a day or two, I'll have to rip out that daughter board to get the clock wire in and complete the messiah2 installation...I just hate to try removing it. Heavy near-perminant soldering is one thing I really hate. And please, PLEASE, don't make comments like 'magic3 sucks, messiah2 rules...use the messiah!' unless you care to finish the install free of charge.
I'm in a bit of a rush because this for my sister's boyfriend, who was recently called to active duty by the army...he leaves Tuesday and I'd like it to be done before then. Thanks.
EDIT: btw, this is a red magic3.1 from backup-source for the not-so-keen, as well as it's a NTSC ps2.
