I have installed a Magic V in a V5 system. It seems that it will boot PS2 games using the PS1 boot method (holding reset until blue light comes on) and boots PS1 games by tapping reset. I checked and double checked all my wiring and it seems to be correct. Anyone know why this is happening?

Something's wrong... can you post a pic or two of the install? Probably just a crossed wire.

I have uncrossed a couple of wires so they are running parallel. There were a few that could have been an issue but turned out that they are not the problem. The R wire is extra insulated and running away from all other wires on it's own.
Upon further testing:
Everytime i rig the system back together for testing (or turn off the main power switch for a few minutes then turn back on), I eject the tray and insert a PS2 (DVD-R) copy. It loads fine from the browser. I then power down to standby mode then press eject to insert another PS2 DVD-R copy. It does not load, RSOD. I try to tap reset, still RSOD.
At this point, if I insert a PS2 DVDRip (CDR), it acts like it's a PS1 game and I get a white "Playstation" (NOT PS2) logo and it stays on that screen. If I power down to standby, eject and insert a PS1 CDR copy it boots from the browser. It will also boot PS2 ORIGINALS from the browser at this point.
It will boot all PS2 copies (DVD-R and rips) if from standby I hold the reset button to power on until the blue light lights just like it should for PS1 games not PS2.
Once again I've checked and rechecked my wiring and everything seems fine. No bridges, solder balls, or anything like that. It is not a laser problem that I can see.
One final note to point out. Originally this PS2 machine housed a Magic 3.1 (official red) chip. The user started having problems with it not booting PS2 copies with tap reset. It would sometimes load and most often not load and give RSOD. By the time he got the system to me it would always RSOD on all PS2 copies. This seems like it is the exact same problem I am having now except it is a totally different chip. Maybe there is another problem?
