    Help would be appreciated.

I have a V7 that has a Magic V in it. It used to work fine. One day it locked up and it wouldn't eject the disk. Removed chip and all was working. Reinstalled chip very carefully.

    Now....

    PS2 DVD originals FINE
    PS2 CD orginals FINE
    PS2 CD Backups FINE
DVD-R Backups... Usually get to browser with a gold PS2 DVD sitting on the screen...but when I hit X, I get two flashes on the screen like it is going to boot....but I end up back at the browser.

    Any Ideas?

sounds like you have the mnop back to front, had this before, just check the m-p or q-r wires, done it on a version4 when i soldered the mnop to the wrong side of bios as well, so m and q where the same etc,

I've heard of this problem also with the Magic V clones that are floating about. Check with your chip retailer and make sure you got a real Magic V.

Also if you are getting the browswer try a different brand of DVD-R
It is possible your laser is wearing out. Mine freezes on some games that i have used cheap discs on. It is also more difficult to boot cheap disc if your laser is starting to wear

nah - try adjusting your laser!

"I just had three V4 stations tonight / Yesterday - two of the three showed this.

What fixed it was adjusting the lasers...

From what appears to be happening is the chip works - and the station only just recognises that the disc is a PS2 game - even tells you so in the top right corner - gives the gold disk screen though each time you hit X...

I increased the power to the DVD side and this went away and never came back...

but then it was only happening every third or fith boot attempt of GT3 on a blue bottom DVD - ok quality...

Game is my test DVD that works in all other stations - so it is not the media so much as the laser being finicky and needing a boost...

Alternatively check your power wire thickness and location - I decided to use an alternative point on those two stations - showed electrically to be the same point - i.e. continuity - but may not have had enough filtering in that location to prevent the chip inducing noise back into the circuit....

either way shifting back to the standard power point and boosting the DVD pot fixed my problem.

If at first if you don't succeed - take out all the F'n bloody screws again and try, try again!
