I am about done with installing a Magic V with the new updated clip kit form Modchip.ca.

Anyways, for the life of me, I can't get the Gnd wire soldered to the ground point! The solder will sit on it, but as soon as I solder the wire to it, it just pops off.

I went out and tried to buy some Flux paste, there isn't any available in the entire city area of where I live! All of the Radio Shaks have discontinued selling the Flux paste. And there aren't any other electronic type stores around here.

Also, I learned that it is best to solder the ground to a fused ground point, rather than any copper spot. So, if someone could give me an alternate fused ground point, that would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

simply solder to the ground plain running round the edge of the board you cant miss it its a copper rim alway round the board.

    EnTiTy,

Actually I did try that, out of being impatient. But, I couldn't get the solder to stick to that either! I lightly scraped a spot with the back of a Xacto blade, and used an eraser to help rub any enamal or coating, but I still couldn't get it the solder to stick.

Also, I am wanting to solder to ground that is fused. I read a post where if you ground to a copper (non-fused) ground point, that if the chip went bad and caused a short, it would short the whole motherboard.

Thanks for your reply! I am hoping that there are other alternate points I could try out.

you mean a power point that is fused?....that would be the part that matters..sounds like your soldering iron isn't getting hot enough, or you're not using enough flux....try to let a ball of solder sit on the copper for 5 seconds, and see if it sticks, and use some flux there...

Sure wish I could use some flux, but as I originally mentioned, I can't get my hands on any anwhere local!

If Radio "Sucks" (Shack) doesn't have it, where else can I go? Would a local computer shop have some? Are there any major brand stores that sell solder equipment? (i.e - Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, Circuit City, etc...)

Also, I am using a 15W soldering iron. It has worked in the past for my last PS2 and PS1.

Well. I got the solder to stick to the original ground point. I figured out that it was my fan that I had to blow away the solder smoke and give me fresh air. It was inhibiting the soldering iron to reach its hottest. Turned the fan off and it worked like a charm, now I am high and developing cancer.

The sacrifices we make for our video game binge.
