Magic V Install problems

I installed a Magic V in a version 7 PS2.I've installed several modchips and I have never had a problem.The PS2 will boot only CD backups and not DVD backups?I thought maybe it was the installation, so I took out the modchip and reinstalled it three times with the same results.Any feeddback will be appreciated.

Your laser is probably dying. Also how are you burning your backups? Media and burn speed?

I'm using Verbatim DVD-R and I burn at low speeds.I know it's not my backups because I'm using known working backups that have been tested on other modded PS2's.

I do think your laser is having problems. You will probably need to replace it.

thanks for the reply.That's what I suspected but I wanted to get someone else's feedback.Is it just cheaper to get a new PS2 or to replace the laser? And where do I get a replacement for PS2 ver 7 laser?

Well it costs 50 to 60 USD for a new laser. V7's use the sanyo open face laser or the 400C sony laser. You can change a Open face laser to 400C with a lens changer program. You could get a used console. www.richspsxparts.com has them. I hope this helps.
