  1. #1 Magic 5KX Install Question

Hey. I'm not (or at least, I try not to be) an ignorant noob who gets on everyone's nerves. I know that people should search around the forum before they post, and I did. My question may be ridiculously easy, and if so, have mercy.

I just got a Magic KX for my slim ps2. I opened the case, got out my soldering iron, and got everything ready, then I ran into a problem.

Every picture seems to show a slightly different installation result.
    http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/atta...achmentid=6276

That is a beautiful looking shot, but seems to have so many wires.

My first problems comes from the *********** installation page for this product.
Is that first picture a finished install? It looks like there are only a few wires.

My biggest problem comes with the diagram

I don't know what the letters in the bubbles mean!
it goes from a to p, with other things like '3.3v' 'scex', I gather that 'rst' is where the resistors go. I understand that these are probably all solder points, and the diagram is nice and huge and detailed, but I don't know how these points connect.

I know you might be mad or shaking your head, but I really don't want to turn my system into a paperweight.

As helpful as *********** were, i'm still a bit in the dark, and can't afford to spend 60-80 dollars to ship the ps2 to an installer to have it looked at. unfortunately, here in Moncton, New Brunswick, if there is someone who installs these chips, they certainly are hiding.

    Can anyone help me out?

I really appreciate it. You guys have a tremendous amount of intelligence when it comes to this stuff.

here dude, btw, what brand of dvd are you going to use for your backups?

those letters stands for the pads on the chip, look closely with a magnify glass if you cant see. solder the one end of the wire onto one of the pads and then solder the other end to the correct point on the pstwo motherboard.

Thank you for your help my friend.

I'm going to use the same thing I use for my DVD's, Benq DVD+R's. What do you think?

And while i'm still grilling you here, heh, the chip has all those tiny spaces for the wires to be soldered to it?

I'm stupid, if I had looked, I would have seen that.

Where is the best place to put the chip? How should it be affixed? You don't actually solder the chip itself down, do you?

you dont have to solder the chip down, you can stick it with double sided tape and run a wire to the ground, itll make removing it easier, everyone recommends dvd-r for ps2 think the +r's are good for xbox

you can do it many ways really. Even install it with wires crossing over each other like mine here and it'll still work great.
