Magic 5k6 on v10 with HD7 laser
Magic 5k6 on v10 with HD7 laser –
considering it was my first soldering job in 7 years it worked out pretty well except:
I'm getting No Data error every time now. Eject on the drive works, it spins, laser assembly moves, lens will move up and down once to reset and will flash (once or twice can't quite remember). Still no data.
Upon first powerup i got a black screen and flicker.... hmmm.. forgot the batteri i did.. yes..
I put that in and i powered it up again. Then i was getting Disc Read Error. So i gave it a light spanking (just in case) and turned it on few more times. It was then when i started getting No Data error. Discovered that ribbon cable from laser to board has detached (my soldered cables on the back were pushing the board up about 1mm and it was enough for the cable latch to open up very easily) Got that corrected with some folded up electrical tape (gives soft but steady preassure on the latch) and now the cable sits securely.
Turned the unit back on and still No Data.
I have cleaned the lense with some microfiber and a tiny amount of alcohol , carefuly blowed the drive with compresses air (very lightly) and tried to adjust the angle of the lense. still nothing.
FYI, before the mod i have never got DRE or No Data.
Any suggestions? Anything will be appreciated.
Does it boot original PS2 games? Does it boot PSX back-ups?
Boots up. Plays regular CDs but no DVD media. no games/movies etc.
when i try to boot my original i get only black screen. disc spins and spins and spins....
Waited up to 6 minutes and nothing.
It might be your laser had gone out. Did you start having these problems immediately after your install? If not, and it this is a recent problem after a successful install I would say its your HD7. HD7's are known to go out. But if this did happen right after the install then I would say something is buggered with your wiring. Have you tried to boot your originals with the chip disabled? To do this with the Magic V's you simply hold the eject button until you see the "Sony Entertainment" screen.
It happened right after the wiring. Also with chip disabled i can read DVD movies (original and my one backup) but original games still won't load. WIth chip enabled i can't read anything DVD based.
I need to know the exact placement of grounding wire on the board. Can someone give me a good pic? maybe of their own successfull install?
Sounds like your install is wrong. Check over everything very carefully.
if all else fails - remove the chip and see if it all still works.
Did you do the romeo mod?
Crossed a wire. Git it fixed now originals load and backups as well after i tried different media. I have not done Romeo mod, can't find clear enough instructions.
