This is a V9 (not v10) PS2 with a Magic 50k chip installed. It plays PS2 originals and backups nicely, as well as homebrew cds, but any PS1 cds cause the problem mentioned in the title. None of the wires are touching each other, and the areas they cross at are separated with tape. The solder points seem to be clean after inspecting them under 10x magnification, but this problem persists. What could the problem be?

Are you holding down reset until the blue eject light comes on?

Yes, I tried it that way, and also with holding reset until the logo appears, and without either, both lead to the same thing.

dont you have to use a magic 5k6 for a v10? i'm sure magic 50k is for v9 ONLY.
if you meant magic 5k6, then check your SCEX point.

I appreciate the help with this, but after cleaning the SCEX point thoroughly and using a long wire that goes around all of the other wires so that it's not touching anything, the problem still occurs. Even after desoldering the SCEX wire, an original PS1 game gives that issue.

The B to I wires seem to be in the right location too.

It looks like a resistor on the right, but on the left, the capacitor looks intact, but I can't check capacitance. The resistance is about 90,000 ohms one way and 50,000 ohms the other.

by right i mean the one closest to the controller IC. i read around that its a capacitor, I could be wrong. When i lifted this 'capacitor' and then put in a psx game, it went to the ps2 browser screen saying it was a music disc. when i reconnected it, it loaded psx games fine. This was without a modchip in.
