Magic 3 v5/6 alternate S location
Magic 3 v5/6 alternate S location –

Hi
had earlier problems with booting original ps1 and ps2 games. ON the advice of the good people in this forum I checked the clip and I think this was the problem. Just couldn't get it to snap properly. Soldiered the wires direct. Checked good no bridges and continuity good. Now I have another problem. The S wire pulled off in the process. The component looks intact but the wire will not resoldier back on. I cleaned and used flux. Is there a metal coating I pulled off? Is there an alternate S point on a v 5/6?
Thanks for all your help

Nope, until now, I don't see any alternative location for Scex.

Got the S connection done after some time. Booted up unit and nothing. Drive spins for 1/2 revolution and thats it. Checking pcb for shorts. Since I had the unit open so many times the ribbon cable is now intermittent. If you hold it the correct way system will turn on and you can open tray. Could this possibly cause system not to boot past black screen?
Thanks

I too am having problem w/ the s point. All ps2 backups boot perfectly everytime but none of the ps1 backup boot. Some people from the forum suggested that there could be a problem from S point. I double checked and they are connected.
About alternative points? isn't there 2 place to solder S point?
-0X0--0X0--- (this diagram sucked but bare w/ me) the Scex point looks like the diagram. China-magic's diagram suggests to solder onto the 2nd '0' where as Charlie's diagram solder to the 3rd one. They are connected and they are virtually the same point, I don't know if you would consider that as a alternative point. Well, if you screwed up one, you can try the other one.

Well i got the S point finally connected. Now nothing will boot. Black screen ,drive turns about 1/4 way and then stops. Was booting originals fine but not backups before. Clip was problem Soldered to bios chip and now not booting. Quadruple checked continuity and for bridges on pins and all good. the reset/eject cable is now intermittent because of the number of times I opened the machine.(Wasn't when originals booted) If this cable is screwed can it effect the bootup and disk drive?
TIME FOR ANOTHER DRINK!!
Thanks

I don't know if it'll screw up the booting, but either way you'll need a new cable.

this might sound stupid .. but did you guys boot ps1 games in ps1 mode ?? ..
if ps2 Cd-R is working .. the S point is connected ok .. ( ps2 cd-rs needs this "s" point to works as well..

psx-tech. booting in ps1 mode?? do you mean putting the machine back to standby and then press reset till the blue light lights up? yes, I did, and then I see the red screen. Can the chip be a bad chip?

i had the same problem the other day and i was convinced that every point was ok but after resoldering the 's' point by bridging with solder between the two resistors and resoldering the 'reset' point it rectified the problem.
good luck
