I'm on my 3rd Magic 3 install and have noticed a bridge on the mod chip between pins 3 and 4 (dot being #1) of the IC on every one. Seems to be intentional, but wouldn't you think the manufacturer would have added a trace between these pins instead of a blob of solder? Pin 4 looks like there's no traces connecting it to anything out-of-board, wheras pin #3 is 5V. The chips were purchased from qualitymods.
