Magic 3 Chip w/ V4 PS2. Can't play DVD-R's?

As subject says, I cannot play DVD-Rs. I have a Magic 3 chip I got from GameGizmo, and it was recently installed in my Version 4 ps2. I heard that with this chip, only V5-7 have the ability to play DVD-R correctly. Is this right? Anyone with a Magic 3 and a Version 4 ps2 able to play DVD-R? Are there any fixes to this, or must you buy a new chip, such as the Messiah 2, in order to play DVD-R? All else works fine tho, IE. CDrs, Originals, etc.

It should work. My Messiah 2 Troubleshooting Guide is equally applicable (in the main) to Magic 2/3 problems.

the clip could've come loose...... thats the main problem with the clips. But try charlies faq first.

Can you play PS 2 dvd originals?

Yes, originals work fine. DVD-Original games.
