Magic 3.5 red screen of death

I recenly purchased a Magic 3.5 MOD. I have soldering experience and the whole installation went fine, however, whenever I attempt to play a backed up game I always get the red screen. I've read various threads with similar problems, I have tried different ways to turn on the console hitting reset in different patterns. I have reviewed my soldering points countless times and I can't find anything out of place. The system plays DVD's and non backed up games fine. Someone mentioned it might be the chip itself. The chip was on a red base while all others advertised are on a blue base. I went ahead and ordered an "official" magic 3 chip with the hopes that it might work that way.

Have you tried a ps1 backup game yet. I had the same problem due to a weak laser, but it would boot up ps1 backup games even though the laser sucked I just had to hold down reset until right before the game booted. When the ps1 backup would start to spin up to boot speed I would then release the reset button and the game would boot. If the ps1 backup boots, it may be that your laser needs replacing or recalibration.

I dont think its da laser as mine plays dvdr movies perfect

I purchased my chip from extreme-mods.com. I have also heard of the laser needing to be adjusted, but I've also heard that on V7 systems its not needed... To many different things are being said. How do you recalibrate the lazer, if that was to be the case. I'm going to back out of the installation and try again tonight.... I have to wait untill my wife is asleep, she thinks its rediculous that I paid soo much for the system and then go and open it up.

I dont think its da laser cas mine will play any movie backup on cheap media.

Weren't that chip advertised as a ''Direct Boot'' chip? Why in the hell would you have to go into all that trouble with a ''Direct Boot'' chip?

I found that out the hard way...they also advertise no returns no exeptions, while other resellers will at least talk to you. I ordered a more stable chip from a more stable merchant.

on step 3... when i hold reset button until tray closes, the ps2 shuts down... and when i tap reset again.. i get the red screen of death....
