My philosiphy is - Magic chips keep selling at a ridiculous rate. If they were "That bad" then people wouldnt continue to buy them. Some of these people having problems might also have a close that they bought from a "Cheaper" not as reputable source. (And then again - Magics can be testy as well...) I personally have had no problems with the Magic 3's I have bought. (The switch helps too)
-Me
I use a magic 3, when it was first chipped it worked fine. but a game froze and after the reboot a got the infamous "black screen" so now i don't know if the chip still works, its dead, or something else is broke. btw I bought mine from modchip.ca as well.
I have Magic 3.1 in my V7 system, and I have no problem with the chip at all.
5 -1 !!!!!!!!!!!!Originally posted by meyousikmann
1 person will say, "Hey, the Magic works great in my console". Then, 5 people will say, "Hey, the Magic doesn't work for crap in my machine."
The only prob with Magics is all the untruths that are circulated about them.
From my personal experience I have discovered the following.
Poor quality downloads struggle to boot, but will boot with Messiah2 - FACT
Poor quality (cheap) DVDR media will struggle to boot, but will boot with Messiah2 (Bulkpaq for example) - FACT
I use the alt 'W1' point by default, I also use alt pwr & gnd points as standard.
1-1 DVD-R back-ups written on decent media (I use datasafe 2x on the fly) boot 100% of the time.
1-1 CDR back-ups written on datasafe media boot 100% of the time.
All the dvd- rips I possess including kalisto downloads boot 100% with the Magics.
I have backed-up games (CD and DVD) that have struggled to boot with the Magics but booted fine with Messiah2, I've rewritten the disc a 2nd time & it works fine.
The verdict - Yes, if you use cheap media you need a Messiah2!
If you download all your games & copy from copies, then you will probably need a Messiah2.
If you take pride/care when backing up your games then Magic3.1 is the sensible option at only 25% of the cost of a Messiah2!
also, people post when they have problems. not when everything is going well.
