I never said the Magic didn't work....In fact, I specifically said it does work. The original poster asked for cons with regard to the Magic chip. With that said, the biggest con is that it doesn't have a 100% boot rate, and the poster has a right to know that. I also said that if you don't mind hitting reset 3 and 4 times, the Magic is fine. I believe firemaster has hit it exactly on the head, and charlie_ps2 has mentioned it several times in the past....the Magic team have failed to account for every instance of the media check, thereby causing red screens and boot failures.

    The defense rests, sir.........

I agree. I have a Magic 3.1 in a v7 and I have trouble with it all the time. Most DVD games work perfectly...but I have to get up and eject the tray everytime I save the game in Splinter Cell. However...CD backups are a different story...1 in 20 work!!! I am going to be exchanging my Magic for a Messiah 2 as I found one for $25 shipped.

I see that booting copied/burned games are a problem with the chip, but does it recognize original import games without common error? Thats basically the only reason I bought it.

Playing DVD-backups games isint that important to me(I buy alot of legitimate import games). A friend of mine has the same Magic 3.1 I bought, and his runs legitimate PSX domestic/imports no problem, same with legitimate import PS2 games. He has yet to try DVD-backups though(wants me to burn him Silent Hill 2). Hopefully, there wont be any hiccups.

Any reported hiccups on running legitimate import PSX/PS2 games? Thats my main concern.

Ok well all of the points are normal accept for the cd/dvd rom injector points. Since the v4 has 3 different spots (on bottom of the board where the chip is, on top of the chip, and on the top side of the board near the center) I used a combo of the center points and on top of the chip points. H and C are attached at the center of the board, G, I, A, D, and B are all attached above the chip. I did it for two reasons: One I hate those damn I.C. legs and Two with the setup I have I never have to worry about two of the wires popping loose and contacting one another killiing the ps2. Either way for some reason it works amazingly well maybe it is my laser which is pretty damn good.

Could be an install problem with that kind of booting rate... And I have swapped my Magic 3.1 for a DMS3 a couple of weeks ago and I have yet to be impressed by it's performance over Magic 3.1.

Ok I got one of your answers. It will boot psx multi disc no prob I just tested it on beatmania with a swap to beatmania 4th mix (anti mod protection patched). Only issues I have heard about the 3.1 with import legits is that on the japanese consoles (ie japanese ps2) it can get cranky.

Magic 3.1 /messiah 2 pro / dms 3 / apple etc. are all good chips, now i have done plenty of mod installs over the past and ive learned that if you take time and install the modchip the right way ( no crossing wires, no cold solder connections etc etc.. ) then your modchip and ps2 will function the way it was intended to be. If you do a sloppy job ( wires cris crossing all over, shitty soldered connections etc.. ) then your ps2 wont work as good.

Funny....I believe I heard the same rhetoric over and over when people complained about the freezing problems with the Magic 3. Too bad all you preachers on proper installation practices turned out to be absolutely and completely 100% wrong on that one. Keep preaching o'Magic homers, most of us know the truth.

Guess you must be saying that LOD does sloppy installs then.....If you only knew of whom you are preaching about.
