Just my suggestion. If i were you to would totally back out of the sucker. Go to radioshack and get a roll of 30 gauge wire (comes itn 3 fine colors I went with red cause it went with the chip) and then to Lowes (if your a Jeff Gordon or Jimmie Johnson fan) or Home Depot (if your a Tony Steward fan) and grab like a foot of cat 5 cable. This should run yout like $4.50 total. Use the 30 guage for everying but the reset, power, and ground lines, there you shoud use the cat 5. I did this for my ps2 and it works great. I know it can ber terribly frustrating. Hell I blew up 1 ps2, gave up on a second/belw it up and ended with 4 months later with my modded V4 (Initial D Special Stage is well worth the trouble) Just take your time and for god sake don't give up. When I got mine done the whole campus could hear the cheer I let out.
