I have now replaced the reset wire with a shorter 24 AWG wire, and resoldered it good. I cut the ground wire to 1.5 cm and soldered it to the copper edge on the motherboard. I soldered the W wire back to the original point (had been on alternate). And I completely removed the Z wire.
First boot, was a success. The Gameshark original (cd) booted perfectly. I then tried a dvd movie, and it too booted perfectly. I watched it for about 5 min, turned it off to try another media. Then i tried to boot a backup cd-r. It went straight into the red screen. Tried an original ps2 dvd..same thing happened. Tried the gameshark again, red screen.. Tried the dvd movie again, red screen. I then tried to boot without any media in. Loaded the dvd movie in the browser screen, which detected it fine. I started it from the browser, and it started up. I fiddled around, stopping and starting for a while..when suddenly it wouldnt load anymore. Disk read error.
Now, it alternately boots to either red screen or browser.
I just learned that the chip is indeed a CLONE (god damn rogue store!). If this has anything to do with my problems i dont know, but it seems very strange that it seem to work every time i have had the power off for a while.
I have thought about cleaning the lens, but why would it boot any media so good as it did just a little while ago, if its really dirty?
Could it be that the chip has problems with overheating??
