What seems to be the best cd-rs to use with the Magic 3.1?? Iam using Verbatims and that doesn't seem to work.
Peace out

Verbatims don't work?
Man, I'm thinking your laser might need adjustment. I test my Magic 3.1 installs with CDRs & DVDRs.
The CDRs I use vary (Imation, Fujifilm, GreatQuality.....) I'm talking cheap bulk stuff. Try using a Taiyo Yuden made CDR (basically any brand that say's "Made in Japan" vs. "Made in Taiwan" on the outside package).
Taiyo Yuiden CDRs are probably the best made, and you can almost always find them on sale somewhere. Most of the cheapie CDRs that are "free" or "$2" after rebate for 50-pack are the cheapie "Made in Taiwan" disks. The Taiyo Yuden CDRs are typically the ones marked with "Made in Japan". I picked up a 100-pack Fujifilm (TY disks) for $4 after rebate a while back, and I always see specials at CompUSA, Best Buy, Staples, OfficeMax, OfficeDepot, Circuit City, etc....
If TY disks don't work, you may want to have your installer take a look at your PS2.
Good luck!

You see magic 3,1 is nothing better than Magic3 with switch.
3,1 has the same stupid problem with booting cd-r.
It depends o burning program that you are using, try Alcohol 120 program, i thin every cd-r burned with this program should work with magic 3.1. By the way all cdr games burned on my Philips writer and with NERo works great with my Magic3, but for example the cdr games burned with TEac writer and nero doesnt works on my Magic3.
Magic3.1 is the same chip as Magic3, just freezing problem is solved, but nothing more
'Sorry for my english

Are your cd-r games ps2 dvd-rips? Can you boot ps1 games?
Yes they are dvd rips and yesterday I reinstalled the chip and now I can play some games that I already burned and Iam tryining to reburn some using Alcohol 120. But everything else works flawlesly. So I do think it is the program that I was using.
Thanks for all the help

Certain users that I've installed for reported back to me telling me that their old Verbatims that use to work no longer work after the Magic3.1. I didn't believe it but after I tested it, they didn't even boot on my system but I took the same CDR and reburned it on my Taiyo Yudens and they boot everytime on both systems. For whatever reason I've found that the Magic3.1's don't seem to work well with Verbatims.
If you are working to the advice I provided in the FAQ post "CD-R Burning Speed" and have used correct parameters etc...Originally posted by nathaniel_04

Then if the game is a Rip of a DVD you might be running into the problems I reported in my review of Magic 3.1. Some rips simply won't play on the Magic series.
