Magic 3.1 bashing??????

You guys are scaring me with all the magic 3.1 bashing going on. I wrongfully didn't read the forum before I purchased a chip I admit that. Now that I see this wealth of information I will definately look here first for furthing modding reference; however, I recently purchased a Magic III 3.1 D9 for my v7 as the chip dealer called it. They are a reputable dealer and they proclaim that it has DVD9 support and that its a decent chip.

Please let me know your thoughts on this chip, Is it just a magic 3.1 with updated code. Also what sort of problems with the magic 3.1 have you bashers had with the chip?

After my friend tried to mod his i'm sure you see his post under my name and he was unsuccefull, I'm wondering if I should have my Electrical buddy put mine in today or not?

I know my install will be good so what type of problems should I expect or not expect from the chip. Also i've read on other forums that you could not disable the 3.1 but i've seen a few people on here saying that you can bye holding the reset for 5 seconds.

You cant play splinter cell and a couple of other games without doing an funny eject method. (approximately 3-5 games wont wont total other than that it should work fine)

It's a pretty old chip that can't really keep up with time. But just think of it as owning an HDLoader where a lotta games are not compatible with your system. =)

On my other ps2...I really never had any probs with the chip. I also can tell you, that it is somewhat compatible with the sony hdd. I had a sony hdd in the ps2 and it worked fine.

Magic 2.x/3.x had issues. it wouldn't support browser or main menu booting you had to tap reset, because of this, v7 had issues with games like splinter cell and some others that do an addition check, since it was a brutal force chip it wasn't smart.
it had very very bad times trying to boot dvd9 game media import or original.
so the Magic team looked at what the Messiah2 chip (only one that supported browser and main menu booting, etc, etc, dvd9 games, etc) properly, then they came out with Magic V.

Skip the Magic 2.x/3.x stuff. Get a Duo2 or something.

So this reputable chip place I bought my chip from is saying that the 3.1 I purchased supports DVD9. Are they lying? or is it possible that my chip has been flashed. The companies been in business since '98' which is pretty good for one of the places. Is there anywhere that there is a list of the games that aren't supported with the 3.1.

I'm to the point now with ps3 becomming so close that it really doesn't matter I've always had the newest consoles the day the come out anyhow. We'll give it a try and see how bad my friend F's up the install and I'll post my results here.

I still haven't seen a good reson not to use the 3.1 other than someone saying that 5 games don't work with it. I'm not one of these leeches that wants to go copying every game in site, I just want it for mainly homebrew use.

Honestly, you are buying something old. You might have no problem with 5 games not working, but what if its one of the games happens to be a new one that you really wanted to play. look a bit a head. unless you are thinking of getting a ps3 from JAP you won't see one in NA/EUR until NEXT OCT (14 months from now).

I don't believe you can turn it off for any online games or for support for SONY-HDD.

You are better off getting a DUO2, less wires and works with browser support and main menu booting.

yes alot of those places thought it was dvd9 compatible, but it wasn't. not 100%, you had to reboot it like 8-9 times to get it to work. sad but true.

hey foundmy, you claim the magic 3.1 will be detected even if it's disabled while it's online?

I have a v7 console....
Yeah about the disabling thing i've read multiple things dealing with that. Occording to most sites they say nothing about disabling the chip, i've only have seen a few that say you can disable with the 5 second method.

Very simple answer.....do you want to reset your console 8-10 times (and I am being generous on the 8-10 times) when you want to play a game? Can't speak for Magic products past 3.1, but every Magic product up to 3.1 had HORRIBLE repeatability rates. You may get a game to boot on the first try, but then it will take 15 resets (again, I am being generous) of the console to get the next game to work. I have done exhaustive testing on the Magic products up 'til the 3.1 and was always disappointed in the results. Magic V may be better, but I would never again buy another Magic product.
