Magic 3.1 any good?

Hm, i have talked to a guy at a local shop where i want to mod my ps2. I wanted to have a magic 3.1 build into my ps2 but he told me that the chip is no good and dvd games will have a hard time to boot and that i will need to often reset my ps2 to get them to work, is that true? Other option would be a much more expensive Chip like ******/Sniper 2 or DMS 3 v.2, but IMO they are a bit expensive. I only want to be able to play "dvd-backup"games without problems.

Magic 3.1 isn't really good!! Just take Apple, Messiah2 or DMS3 they are great. Don't take risks!!!

i boot dvd-r all the time in my v7 with a magic 3.1

My cousin boots DVD-R all the time in his v7 with Magic 3.1, too. Oh wait, that is only after he has reset the console 32 times to get one stinken disk to boot.

The guy at the local shop is absolutely correct. The Magic 3.1 works, but only after rebooting SEVERAL times. Steer clear of anything named Magic and you won't be sorry. I am personally running a Messiah 2 and couldn't be happier.

My magic 3.1 boots every disc i throw at it 100% every time.

if you guys are having to reboot 32 times... IT ISNT THE DAMN CHIP. you probably need to use different media, clean the laser, or adjust the laser, the chip is either going to work or it isnt, and if its flaky you may have to hit the switch in the back, but it sure in the hell isnt the cause of having to reset it 32 times just to make it boot once.

Yeah mine boots fine even with navi installed to the HDD.
