I just installed the Magic 3.1 in my version 7. After many times checking the connections. I got the PS2 to boot ATV Fury, then I triied a PS1 game and it went to a red screen say use PS1 or PS2 format. I get the same screen when I try my backup.
    HELP

Arrrrrrrr, if'n Magic 3.1 boots psx games like the v 3.0 does, what ye have ta do is insert yer psx game, power off to stand-by, then hold the reset button in until the blue light comes on on yon eject button. If'n that don't work, you have some problems with your chip, wiring, or even a solder bridge on a circuit or something....can't help ye too much when it comes to that part though.

Triied that. I still can only boot PS2 game. PS1 comes up a a AUDIO DISK, or the red screen saying insert a PS1 or PS2 format.

I came across this a few times. It always turned out to be a cd/dvd controller connection. The magic chip is getting the wrong infor from the disk because all the points are not soldered correctly.

You will probably need to redo the cd/dvd controller points.

BTW, You did remove any laquer on the points, right?

The points where you attached B,C,D,E,F and the like. Simply take a pointed object, like a small screwdriver head, and scrape the pads you are supposed to solder to.

This will remove the laquer that the board is coated in, and give you a good connection. The laquer is kind of clearish brown, you will know if there is some on there when you start scrapeing.

BTW, don't scrape too hard. You dont want to take the points off the board. :-)

check an original psx game, if it works most likely your 's' point but becareful you might lose that point all together if you mess up with it. Very easy for that resistor to dissapear, and adding a micro resistor isnt all that fun
