magic 3.1 modchips are ok. I do not recommend them on v7 systems. Game require a tap on reset button to boot. I personally would spend an extra few dollars and buy a messiah 2 or dms3.
N£TM£ÇH is there a reason that you don't recomend it on v7 systems?
I have got two v7's to detoriorate quickly with magics installed...
Are there others that have had this problems with magic 3.1 and v7's apart from me?
I've got a Magic 3.1 in a version 7. I've had it installed for probably a little over a month. I have had no serious problems. Sometimes the games won't boot and I'll get a RSOD, but I just go to standby and boot again.
Other than that I have had no problems. I use Sony DVD+RWs and Ritek G03s for my backups. Both of them read perfectly. What kind of problems are you having with yours?
If I could do it over again, I would spend the extra cash for a Messiah 2 or a DMS3 as N£TM£ÇH stated. But what's done is done and I am quite content.
Magic 3.1 isn't that great in general, but even worse in a v7, as it does not get passed v7 protected games such as Splinter Cell and Max Payne.Originally posted by z_thk

bighap: ahaa..that,right.
I thought that I could maybe get an explaination of why 2 v7 consoles that I modded started to read worse and worse over the course of just a few weeks.. One of them hardly reads anything anymore.. and that one was new.
Have you tried cleaning the laser?
bighap: Sure I have... the laser coils are burned.... maybe I got a bunch of cloned m3.1's..
That or bad installs.
no not bad installs... The funny thing is that I used the same chips in a v3 and a v4, and it boots a hell of a lot better.. in the v4 I most of the times don't even need to press reset.. and the customer is satisfied now for over 2 months..
that is what puzzles me, works welll in early ps2 versions, but in v6/v7 it sucks..
