I have a model SCPH-30001R PS2. Originally, I thought it was a v5/v6, so I ordered the correct chip from modchipstore.com. I believe it is the R Type. My friend had the same number and did the same.
Last night, we openned up our boxes, and they looked completely different. His, looked like the normal v5/v6, so he went ahead and started modding. Mine looks like a V4 or a R/V7 according to china-magic.com. Here are the two boards it looks like
V4 Board (needs V4 chip):

R/V7 Board (needs R chip):

They both look identical, and have the same installation, but they need different chips. So, is there anyway for one of you to tell what kind of chip I need, based on the model number and what it looks like on the inside. I bought it around Jan/Feb (in hawaii).
I am leaning towards the one I got, because it has an R at the end, doesn't match normal identification for a V4, and is somewhat new to be a V4 (the store was selling out a lot around that time, and they kept ordering more)... I just can't find much info on identifying a R/V7 anywhere.
any help is appreciated...
thanks,
daniel

got an answer... looks like it is a v4, but the R chip will work with it.
