Magic 2 clone? –
10-02-2002,09:09 PM
I bought a magic 2 from www.modchipstore.com. I am wondering if this is a clone. Description:
-Green board
-has smiley face with MAGIC-2 printed next to it
-marked M2-V3.0 below the MAGIC-2
info printed on chip:
EXILINX
XC9572
PC444MM0225
F1223562A
10C
my gf has my digi, so I can't take a picture right now.
Besides not being able to use GS2, what other draw backs are there? Does this mean that you can't use a burned GS2 or you can't use GS2 period?
peace,
daniel

It's a clone. It's on;y drawback on the US v7 on which I reported (see the sticky) is you can't use GS2 with codes on a backup game; all other GS2 functions are fine.

Product: Matrix 2 No Swap Modchip for V7 USA/PAL/JAP

Review:
All in all the chips works fine. It however does not have GameShark support. I tried installing 2 different chips into 4 different V7 PS2's and when the Z points are connected the eject button will not work. Once the Z point is disconnected the system works fine. Seems to be a clone of the Magic2 V7 without Gameshark support. PS2 DVD-R games and PS2 CD-R both US and import games worked fine. PS1 CD-R game worked as well. DVD playback was fine and there was no skipping. I have email about this problem with gameshark support but have yet to here anything. This is a feature that the chip is supposed to have.
Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!]

thanks for the help guys... I have a no gap v4, and at the moment, I am not 100% sure this chip will work in it. I know that both the V4 chip and the R chip will work in my system, but I don't know about the clone. The company I ordered from isn't much help. They basically scan over my requests and respond with dumb questions that are obviously explained.
I don't use GS2 or any of the others at the moment. I would rather have the option for the future, but it isn't that big of a deal. Maybe GS2 works with the no gap V4 and this chip?
charlie_ps2: I will check your sticky post for more info... hopefully you mention its compatablitly with my system in there.
psx-tech: I definitely plan to add the cap.
thanks again,
daniel

ok... i just ordered a magic 2 R type from modchip.ca. Hopefully I will get a true magic 2 chip from there... At least they would verify for me that their chip will work in my system. If anyone is interested in my magic 2 clone that works in v5/v6/v7, pm or email me, otherwise I am going to return it tomorrow or monday.
on a side note, I don't recommend modchipstore.com at all. They are slow getting back to you and don't really pay attention to your requests. If you don't need much help from them and know that you want a v5/v6/v7 magic 2 clone, go for it. They definitely mailed it out right away, and I actually got it very quickly.
modchip.ca, has been helpful from the start. They replied to me within minutes. They told me what my system was, and what chip i needed. I have only been looking at mod chips for a few days now, so I wasn't up on a lot of the knowledge. Big thanks to ps2newz.net and the people here for bringing me up to speed.
later,
daniel
p.s. charlie_ps2, I have been studying your pdf for the last 2 days, preparing myself for the install. Today I am going to home depot to pick up the missing supplies. You are a big help to the community, and save people lots of $$$ on installation fees.

well... modchipstore.com got back to me today, and the chip wouldn't work in my system... They are going to take it back though. So, I guess modchipstore.com isn't so bad. I think they are just busy. They do sell the v3 chips so you know. Fast delivery (ship from US and UK)... 79.95
Luckily My chip from modchip.ca should be here tomorrow...
