Magic 2 chip for GH-006 important question!!!
Magic 2 chip for GH-006 important question!!! –
I installed a Magic 2 V3 chip into my GH-006 NTSC PS2 and it did not function properly, which I couldnt play PS2 DVDR's, PS2 Retail or PSX games. I've sent it back to where I purchased it for testing and it worked fine. Except DVDR's did fail. I was wondering if I got a V4 chip for this model if this wil fix the problem. I really need to know!! Thanks
Not so far as I know. You have an 020 BIOS and the v4 chip requires an 030 BIOS. Some functions (perhaps many functions) might work as event strings coincide, but full compatibility is unlikely. Search this forum, LOD has reported a v1 (020) PS2 working with a V4 Magic 2.
But the V4 chip won't fix your DVD-R problem; that is likely to be your laser if your dealer has fixed the other problems.
Okay, thanks. So I guess I may need to replace it then, since it has looked like it needs replacing for a long time.
Hey Rich, don't waste your money on a new laser. My board is exactly the same as yours and I have the exact same problems. I did replace the laser as was suggested and it still does not function properly. I believe the Magic II does not work correctly with the GH-006 board, but no one here will admit it. You will be told to check solder points, clean laser, replace laser, adjust laser, use larger wire, etc.... but none will work. I have tried EVERYTHING and it still does not work. Take it from me, I have probaby spent more than the price of a new PS2 on solutions to try and get the Magic II to work. Bottom line, I am probably going to buy a newer premod because I simply don't believe the Magic II will ever work properly with the GH-006 board.
ok thanks for letting me know beforehand. I'm sorta pissed right now, espeically with how much I put forward downloading PS2 DVDr's burning a bunch of DVDR games, not being able to play them. I guess I'll take your word for it, because I also doubted very much a laser would make a difference, cuz if PS2 CDRs read with the Sbox, then why not the Magic 2...
