I know there is a mod to add a capacitor to the Magic 2, to stop noise on 1 of the lines. I also know that there are details of it in the FAQ.

My problem is, the FAQ link is broken!!!

Anyone have details of this mod. I'm hoping this is what's causing my unreliable operation of my Magic 2.

    Symptoms:

Occasional Stutter during DVD playback (originals, and copies)
Error Reading Disk during PS2 gameplay (ViceCity).
Total Hang on the layer change

I have cleaned the laser, checked all the connections multiple times, and everything is fine, all the leads are nice and short, and the GND, 5v, and 3.3V are heavy gague...

Does this sound like a route to check, or am I wasting my time by fitting the capacitor?

    Thanks.

PS. 1 other question. I ordered the modchip (Magic 2) from Bald Bouncer, as he was linked from the MagicModchips website. Can I safely assume that this is a genuine Magic 2, not a clone, as he is a "official" (as official as PS2 modchips can be!!!) reseller?

http://www.ps2newz.net/forums/showth...=&threadid=253 is the link to the FAQ.

On your second question, no comment.

Thanks. Can I put the ca[acitor at the modchip end of the wire, i.e. solder the cap to the modchip pad, and the wire to the cap? As it's only being used as a DC block, I assume it makes no differece where it's located on the line. Is this corrrect?

    Thanks.
