M2 US ver1 problem –
I'm struggling to get an M2 pro working in a US ver1 GH005 mainboard.
The problem I'm having is that the M2 won't even initialise, so from what I've seen so far with M2's I believe its a problem with one of the bios wires. I'm positive my soldering is good as I'm able to solder to every other ver of PS2's bios ok, and this time I'm 1000% sure each wire is connected as in the diagram on the www.foundmy.com
So I'm wondering if first someone can confirm they've used the diagram for the GH005 board from foundmy.com and had success ? As it does look as though LOD's install used a different point for 'A' which doesn't beep with a continuity test with the point suggested on foundmy.com's site so if there's a mistake with the cd/dvd wire's perhaps there's a mistake with the bios wires too.
So if foundmy.com's diagram is incorrect does anyone have a diagram that they've used and found to work ?
You should Check (W) and (R) most likley you have attached (R) right to the BIOS this is the WRONG spot. Do PS1 Backups boot? Which clock point did you use?
I'm pretty sure w is right as thats a nice and easy point. I spotted you used a different point for 'R' yesterday and moved it to that but no difference.
I've tried both of the clock points that are on the foundmy.com diagram.
Nope PS1 backups don't boot, its as if the mod isn't even in there.
Also another test I tried was to boot a dvd-film without setting the M2 into the PS1/film mode and it managed to boot fine.
I'll be surprised if its my cd/dvd wires causing the problem as I don't have any problems with the PAL ver3's and as you know they're the same points.
Which side of the board did you get the SCEX and CLOCK signal? Also which BIOS version 010 or 020?
I have to admit I cheated, I've gone for the alternate points on top of the board.
I forgot to mention I've also swapped out the M2 mod so thats not the problem either.
So I guess the next step is for me to desolder those four pins then and get to the back board ?
I was looking at some of Terrys diagrams and I noticed that he attached the BIOS wires on the backside where there is another BIOS ROM. And NOT on the topside. Which side did you attach BIOS wires to? Also you should be getting that SCEX on the backside along with the CLOCK signal.
Sorry I missed a question, the bios is an 010.
I've wired the bios wires onto the bios chip on the top side of the board, the same chip that you wired to when you posted the M2 worked in 010 bios's
I've double and triple checked every point apart from 'R' is exactly as in this diagram:
I guess I cheated myself by trying the shortcut of using the scex and clk points on the topside.
I'm doing a V1 Gh-004 020 install and I plan on using the alt CLK and Scex points. I got my M2 from foundmy and Terry sais V1-3's have been tested and working with the alt Scex point. If you solder to the origonal clk/scex points and it works, please inform Terry over at foundmy.com.
Backstar - what was wrong with hDL's points on www.messiah2.com?
Also could you do me a big favour and take and let me have a high res photo of the other side of that mobo - the whole side?
The Messiah2 site only has the diagram's for the gh004 board, I guess I should have mentioned this but it wasn't exactly a problem as I just did a google search.
I did manage to get the M2 working without getting to the otherside of the board this morning.
I had real problems trying to desolder the four pins, so if possible I'd rather not just to take a picture, but as its you asking I will. But are you sure its still required if as I proved its not neccassary to get to the back of the board.
Unfortunatly I now have to make a seperate post regarding this PS2 though since the install.
