There are some clicking noises that are normal during the console operation. Is your console reading the media? If not, there are two distinct noises that the laser is possibly making. The first noise was explained very clearly by charlie in his sticky thread and is caused by the laser assembly being driven into the spindle while the console continues to drive it further. This sound is more like a bicycle with a card in the spokes. The other sound is 4 or 5 HEAVY clicking sounds similar to what it would sould like when you press your mouse button very hard. If you problem is the former, the azimuth adjustment will not help you. Charlie has suggested different media in this circumstance. Read his sticky if this is your problem. If your problem is the latter, the azimuth adjustment may help some, but it is more likely misadjusted laser pots. Did you or your installer change either the azimuth or laser pot adjustments?
Here is a step-by-step azimuth adjustment guide (some excerpts from modchip.ca):
1. Disconnect all power and A/V cords from your PS2. Ensure all devices including memory cards, controllers, compact discs and/or DVD?s are removed from the system.
2. Turn your PS2 upside down and remove all eight screw caps (4 rubber and 4 plastic). These caps cover the PS2 assembly screws. Pry the caps off gently using a small flat head screw driver. Note: Four of the eight case screws are 2 1/2" in length, and all screws must be re-used in their appropriate holes only.
3. After you have removed all 8 of the case screws, you will need to turn the PS2 right-side-up and remove the top cover. Lift the top cover of the PS2 case up and away from the exposed controller ports and drive tray on the front of the console. Important: The top of the PS2 is attached to the bottom via a thin ribbon cable which connects to the Reset/Eject switch. Ensure not to damage or remove this ribbon cable when removing the PS2 top.
4. Remove the four screws holding the drive tray cover on and gently lift the drive tray cover off to expose the laser assembly.
5. Make small adjustments to the laser azimuth and test. I am not sure of the size, but the azimuth adjustment screw is a Torx screw. It is possible to use a phillips screwdriver if you have one small enough. In order to test the adjustment you will need to plug the AC and video cords back in and connect to a television. Also, there is a white magnetic "disk" that holds the disk on the spindle while the console is in operation. You will either need to replace the drive tray cover while testing, or you will need to remove the white "disk" from the cover and place on top of the disk to hold it on the spindle. Make sure you completely power down the console between tests to be sure any previous adjustment problems are cleared.

Please define clicking. As I stated earlier, some clicking is normal. "Clicking" is such a generic term....does it sound like a bicycle with a card in the spokes, or 4 or 5 HEAVY mouse button clicks. When does it happen? While a game is loading? All the time? Only for a few seconds. You can't expect us to help when all you have said is "clicking". Look at it this way, you can never give too much information.
i need your help! much appreciated, heres my situation:
my ps2 is currently with necrolop, its aV7 and has been modded with a messiah2 pro it boots all backups, but has a CLICK CLICK CLICK noise, and struggles to booot DVD-r, but also has clicking noise. Originals also have a slight clicking noise. the azimuith adjust didnt help either. he swapped my V7 DVD drive for a V6 and it worked fine, he also put my V7 drivein a V6 console and that worked fine as well.
its very weird, ur help would be much appreciated!
