Heya... I'm a long time Xbox user wanting to get into the PS2 scene a little bit so I was thinking of buying a premodded ps2... As of now, I really only want to play backups/imports of PS2 and PSX games... I've done some reading about the different modchips out there, but I have to admit I'm not really sure what I need or what the right chip is for me... So basically I just have 2 questions:

    1. What modchip should I buy in a premodded ps2 so I can directboot backups and imports?

    2. Does anyone know a good vendor that I can buy it from?

I'm in southern NJ if that matters, but anywhere in the US that will ship to me is cool too...

    Thanks in advance!

(I apologize if this is in the wrong forum... I wasn't sure...)

Well all Installers that you provide the chip will only charge for the install with shipping. I just wanted to tell you that.

You can buy a premod from other vendors. You can check the BST Vendors section because you will find lots of people selling it with Infinity or Crystal which is a great chip too.

I also recommend that you stay away from the DMS 4 chip because it has lots of problems. We also dont support it.

Some helpful advice here... I appreciate it... Another question I have is concerning hard drives... I'd like to be able to add an HD in the future in the easiest way so I can play my backups off of that... For instance, for the Xbox, we have a program called dvd2xbox that can rip the game right from the xbox dvd drive to the hd... Are any of the chips better in the long run if I wanted to add a drive or are they all the same? And I imagine there is a similar program for the ps2 right?

Honestly right now I care most about just playing backups, but it might be nice to leave some future expandability options open...

You don't have to give me a lengthy explanation if you don't want, I'll be happy to search around if you could give me a few keywords that I can put in the search engine here...

    Thanks again!

You can use HDLoader or HDAdvance. Dont ask where to find it because like the Xbox scene it is considered warez and we dont allow it. The Crystal and the Matrix Infinity will you to expand it. Crystal Chip has a Xbox dash like app called Bootmanager and you might like that.

The Crystal Chip needs a hacked firmware but that is easy to find.

Hehe I imagine that the ps2 scene has a "usual places" just like xbox does... That's no problem I'm sure I can find software when I need it...

Are there any good tutorials to read on actually adding the hd to the ps2? I imagine it's more involved then xbox since the ps2 doesn't come with one normally...

And it sounds like the crystal chip is the way to go... Again, thanks for all the help so far... Now I just have to find a good place to get everything from...
