Looking to burn games and play backup disc what chip do I need? –
Hey im shane I have a ps2 and an xbox. (my brother has the old ps2) I am looking to backup our games and burn them (with a dvd burner?) and then play the burned copies, is there a chip that just installs right in the back? I dont want to have to open the ps2, or soder anything in. Any suggestions?
theres a disc called swap magic with a slide tool.
Go with a internal chip you'd be much happier
What's that do act as a boot disc? Im not looking to do the hard drive route, I just want to play a burned game.

like Quadude says go for a internal chip and it will save you alot of troble. My friend had the swap magic thing and it work fine for a little wile but after that it will take like 10 or 20 trys untill it will boot the backups and now it is completly dead...(the swap magic, ps2 still works though butjust not the backups.)
youll have to have a chip soldered in the ps2 .
Plus with the swap magic setup, you sometimes have to patch some newer games for them to work with the disks. Go with the team, get a soldered chip instead, can't go wrong. Why give yourself the trouble, look what happened to Lalala123's friend. Happy gaming !
Since noone had said anything about which chip to use...

If you need someone to mode your ps2, I saw 2 people on this site that will do the install for $20USD (you supply the chip) If you don't have the chip, the one who mode my is $75 with sommone's fix and Matrix PIC. and addtional $11.75 for shipping so it is $86,75USD
P.S I was told that there is not much difference between the Matrix PIC and Sonsoft fix. anybody care to explaine the difference? thanks

Sorta in the same boat –
Hey guys. Sorta in the same boat as this guy, and not exacly wanting to start a new thread, since im new to the scene and everything. Looking for a chip to buy for a used ps2 i recently bought. It has not yet arrived yet, so not sure of the model number. Can you guys help me out with a recommendation?
I was looking at DMS3, and thinking that is a good chip to try out. I can solder, but my skills are not the best in the world, as my burned out stereo can easily screetch out to you .
Anyway this is what i am looking for:
A chip with not to many wires (please...)
Able to run homebrewed applications (for exp: SNES emulator, ect.)
Compatible with HDLoader ( ?? i belive they are all compatible with HDloader, but if there is a open source alternative available, I would love that instead)
Run *cough, cough* backed up games
Soooo, what do you guys recommend?
