Anyways, about a month ago my ps2 started acting up (wouldn't read some dvd-r's and stuff like that so I figured it was the laser). I opened up the ps2, and cleaned the laser eye, and it actually helped it at the time...The games booted up again for a while. Then, recently they started to mess up again, So I thought "i'll try cleaning it off again, and see if it works." Well, I cleaned it off, but then I was wondering what will happen if I turn that (I beleive it's the CD/DVD pot? Little white circle behind the laser...). Before I turned it my CD-R's were working flawlessly, but of course the DVD's weren't working so good (1 out of like 20 tries maybe )...I turned it, and of course nothing will boot now! I kept trying to fool with it...Putting it in different places, keep turning it, and it keep clicking, etc ...Hoping to get lucky really, and it boot something up. That is the Pot isn't it? I remember reading something about adjusting the "pot" but never really payed much attention to it...Any help, or a link to that thread about adjusting the pot (can't remember where I seen it...) it'd be appreciated.
    Thanks...

WooHoo! Figured the damn bastard out! Anyways, not really sure what I did, but I adjusted it to point to the little hole, and it booted up my cd-r's. Guess i'll fool with it,and hope it boots up DVD-R's.

Well...I used to use Princo and it worked great (along with any other brand of dvd-r's, or anything cd-r)...Then My laser wore out a bit I guess and I could get some Princos to boot and others wouldn't ...I can still boot all my DVD-R movies (on princo) every single time...Then Ritek started failing too, along with everything else to do with DVD-R's...EVEN VERBATIM CD-R'S failed on me ...While other shitty cd-r's would boot fine!!! Dumbass PS2.
So, just starting to have problems with it (partly due to my idiotness ), but I can't complain it's lasted for a year and a half, and didn't show one sign of being wore down until lately, but it's still working. I guess I play her til she blows !! Or get a new laser, or something

its not a pot(entiometer). its a gear/cog that adjusts the plane of the laser assembly. charlie_ps2 calls it the parallax:

Well....I took everything practically apart on my ps2, cept that damn Metal Casing-Need a smaller Screwdriver. I gonna go ahead and put it away for now, but if somebody would like to give me some pictures on HOW to put your ps2 back together.... , it'd be appreciated. I gonna have a deformed PS2 by the time I get done .

DAMN!!! Just got done putting the little beast back together...Took me like hour and a half (probaly ****ed up at least 15 times, forgetting screws, and having to take it apart, or forgetting to plug shit in and have to take it apart-Had to take it apart 15 times probaly ). I broke that Little Snap that holds the Eject ribbon in place (I tryed to tape it, but that didn't seem to work-Tape probaly feel off)...ANybody got any ideas on what I should use to hold it in place? I'm unsure about the condition of the laser right now-Can't get the damn thing to Eject right!!! Think I gonna just get a pro to do it for me (fix my damn eject shit, and go ahead and put in the laser for me-I'm sure I'm capable of putting it in, but make it easier).
