lets fix my ps2 once and for all... as you may already know I have a:
V7 39001
Messiah2 (not sure of the version)
but the initial modchip install was botched and sent to a reputable installer, he then replaced the motherboard with a new one, but then it wouldn't boot backups so he got me a V6 PAL assembly/laser out of his own personal machine... it supposidly worked, when I got it (this was months ago, maybe a year) it worked great, except CD-R was still a bitch it worked like 3/5 times, now it works like 1/5 times. so I replaced the laser with a new V7 open faced laser. still the same thing, I slightly tweaked the CD pot, and still the same :-/ I think I'm going to have to make some adjustments to the assembly but not sure which ones,
edit: I use to use memorex for all of my burning needs, but I recently got some TDK's the ones made in taiwan, anyway I figured I would give it a try, I did and same as usual I get a disc read error
TIA guys!

Was your original laser open faced?? You need to replace the lasers with the same type. Also, was it a new laser, or "reconditioned"? I would guess based on your description that your problems most likely stem back to the laser...
