Lens Touches CDs??!!! Making scratches...
Lens Touches CDs??!!! Making scratches... –

I noticed that my CD-RS quickly died after playing... I checked them and saw these circular scratches were made after playing for a few minutes... I opened by drive and put in this transparent cd that came with my cd-rs... Let it run and saw and heard the lens touching the cd. Sure enough, brand new circular scratches were made.... Anything I can do?

So this is a Ps2 I assumed, there are ways to adjust the lens on that, but not easy as they claim.

Yep, PS2. I searched through the forums but didn't find an answer so I thought I'd ask.

The laser azimuth is not the problem. I did that for my DVD pot, and that fixed it. The CD-R reads cds just fine though, but it the lens scratches CD-Rs and DVD-Rs alike.

A friend of mine has a similar problem with his V3 PAL PS2. But it only damages CDs, not DVDs. I had suggested to him that he should have the PS2 on it's side instead of standing vertical, but I'm not sure if that solved it or not.

You are correct in your assessment that the pot adjustment is not the solution to your problem, however, you have misquoted the name of the operation noted by the link given. That link shows how to do the pot calibration to increase/decrease the gain for each diode, but the azimuth adjustment is something entirely different.....and I do believe the azimuth adjustment just may solve your problem.
Check my post in this thread, explains how to do azimuth adjustment.

Ooops, I made a mistake. I never adjusted the azimuth, I adjusted the ohms for the DVD pot.
How can the lens touch the disc? Wouldn't Sony make sure it doesn't do that?
