Laser calibration fixes DVD boots with Magic 3.0 and V7!
Laser calibration fixes DVD boots with Magic 3.0 and V7! –

So I check my pot and it is at 1486! The guide by Charlie says it should be at 1100 or so, so I adjust it to what should be the default of 1200 and this thing boots DVD beautifully. I had a DVD backup of Shinobi that would not work at all and now it does! That was weird too, because same media and different games would boot. Anyhow, all DVD-R are booting faster as well. Seems as if the PS2 is just seeing the disk better!

umm may i ask why you touched the dvd pot when its a brand new v7?????
your going ot have rpblems from here on in never ever adjust your dvd pot unless you have to if you had dvd problem it might have had a dirty laser i.e. dust on it
adjust it to its original posistion
cheers

PS2guy, this was a new version 7 yes, but how would it have dust on it already either? All my other games would boot except this Shinobi. Anyhow, shouldn't the ohms be set at 1200? Mine was close to 1500! Also, what did you use to clean off dust from laser just one of those disks with the brush?

hoser if there factory settings then leave your start trouble once you adjust the laser you shouldnt of touched it whats so ever
from here on in your laser trouble gonna start coz you trampered with it
the reasone why it didnt boot is purely coz it was a shit brand disc trust me i burn games and if a game doesnt burn it useally the disc brand even ask charlie_ps2 he had trouble with a ps2 he did everything to make it boot everything it was along story and at the end it was just the brand he was using
so chaqnge branda and you will see the differance

ps2guy, it is the same brand that works for EVERY other game! That is what is weird. Now this thing reads anything. Charlie's guide says to adjust down to 1100 or so. Anything below 1000 he says is dangerous. I have mine at 1216 or so. That is not even close to his limit! All I know is that I am having no problems now. Maybe I can turn it back up to 1300 and see if it still works.

I defend Hoser a little here, I too have adjusted nearly every V7 (39003) down to 1200ohms. If i do not do this I have a hard time explaining that their 'brand-new' console will only read Verbatim quality disks, whilst their mates 2year old PS2 will read any old rubbish!!
