Laser adjustment questions

I have a NTSC v4 no gap with a Magic 3 installed. Vice City DVD-R plays for about 30 sec., then gets either an error or Loading.... GTA 3 plays pretty well (DVD-R) but it loads very slow on the fly (shadows from the buildings are blue, lines are missing off of the roads). I adjusted the azimuth to even get the games to play this good. They wouldn't even load before. I also moved the dvd pot adjustment a little bit, but not much at all since I dont have an ohmmeter. My question is this:
When I get my hands on an ohmmeter, should I adjust the pot and then fine tune with the azimuth? I downloaded Charlie_ps2's guides on adjustments, but which should I do first? Can the azimuth stay the same now that I have it tuned in, or will it change again after I adjust the pots?

A simple search will show you that lock ups, freezing, loading errors are common with the Magic 3 chips. My personal opinion on laser adjustment after testing both Magic and Messiah, don't adjust the laser to fit the chip. Adjust the chip to fit the laser (read as get rid of the Magic and get a Messiah).

Dont scrap your Magic 3. It works fine. Install a switch on it first man. Chances are this will fix your freezing problems. Adjusting your laser may fix your problems temporarily but it may also shorten your lasers life. (If you dont have a M2 already but do have a Magic 3 installed there is no reason to spend more $$$ to get a Messiah - Get a switch for your Magic.)

while parsing the forum looking for some laser adjust values , i found on thes post i consider like total BULLSHIT :
i do currently have in front of my eye 4PS2 : two of them aren't reading media anymore ( one reads only cd , the others DVD ) , and two other are reading everything just fine ...
two two faulty PS2 are messiah powered , the two working one are magic3 powered ...
it's quite obvious that whatever the chip used , it cannot be help responsible for reading problems ! messiah is IMO the best chip of its generation , but two messiah powered PS2 are faulty ... one V3 and one V4 ...
btw , the magic 3 PS2 are V3 and V4 too ...
so stop this Bs and give any help , instead of flaming chips ..
