Laser Adjusting went wrong(?) –

Hi!
First of all: plz excuse my poor english... it's been a while.
I recently installed a MagicICE Chip in my V3 and everything woked fine.
Today I visited a friend who owns a DVD-R Burner and we copied a Game for testing.
The PS2 refused to boot up the DVD and (well, I could kill myself for doing that) I opened it and turned the DVD Resistor a lttle bit, to see if it would run the game.
Unfortunately I don`t seem to have remindet the Resistors original Position exactly enough, because now the PS2 doesn't even boot original DVD Games anymore.
CD and CDR Games still work fine.
Is there anything I could have destroyed by turning the Resistor so stupidly?
At Home I tried different Values from 600 to 1000 Ohms for the DVD-Resistor, but it just didn't work.
There ist a red light coming from the bottom of the Laserunit when I try booting, which blinks several times (only on DVD). The DVD starts to spin, stops after a short time and starts over.
Have I allready killed my beloved PS2 or is it just a setup-problem?
check all the points on the install, maybe upgrade to a better chip, uh, you could have blown the dvd side of the laser. Try a different laser that is compatible with your v3 unit. Oh and the red light is normal, happens for everyone, happens on my v7, happens on my friends unmodded v7.
Well I don't think the chip is of any problem, since the PS2 worked with original DVDs, CDRs and CDs after the chip was instaled.
I' affraid the laser is broken.
If there really are sepperate parts inside the LaserUnit for CD and DVD...
I guess MagicICE is different but on DMS3 and Magic3.1 - point W controls the booting of DVD media (any kind) but CD Media will still be fine, so check all your points.
check to see if original dvd games boot, if so your lucky. Also you can measure the resistence on the dvd pot using a multimeter. You dont want to go below 700 ohms or so. The more resistence the better for your laser will last longer. Also might wanna clean the lense with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. Recheck your wires. If all else fails buy a new laser for $50.00 . I have attached a photo of a v1-4 laser and where to touch to get a ohms reading of the dvd laser. Remember you must have the ps2 powered on and lit up ( not in standby ). What type of dvd-r media are you using ? v1-3 lasers will not read dvd+r so make sure your using dvd-r. Hope this helps
