    Hi all,

I'm having a little problem with my ps2. After failing to install an Apple2 chip in my v7 ps2, i'm now trying to get the machine working without modchip. Well i'm having probs. now, the machine boots into the "browser" menu sometimes. It boots games sometimes too, but most of the time the laser goes all the way down the slade (outside the area of CD) and just sits there doing this wierd stuff like the laser diod itself jumps up and down like it's trying to focus on something. Any suggestions? Where to look for bad soldering from removed chip?

Thanx in advance for any suggestions...

    Info:
    SCH-39004 v7 PAL
    failed Apple2 chip install

v7's need high quality media, as their lasers have been recalibrated to not like DVD-R's or CD-R's. You need to burn to Verbatim, TDK, Ritek, or another high quality media.

check for shorts around the bios chip and all other connections which were made.
solder has a effect to splatter and cause small balls to roll between the pins on chips ... get ya magnifing glass out m8 and ya test meter.....best of luck...baz

    y0 all

Well I've been "debugging" some more now, and it seems that the games will run fine if the console has been shut off for a while. But if a do a RESET then the laser will move out to the position far down the slade and start to jump. So, game runs and can be restared if you shut down the console, but if you do a reset (tap the reset button) laser will screw up the position.

Of I go to check out the RESET points were I was soldering the chip to look for strange stuff there...I'll report back soon.

Hello there is not an overheating issue here..he doesn't even have a chip installed.

I would check to see if the lazer cables are all correctly seated.

HAve you opened up the drive to look and see whats going on?
