LAN capabilities?
hey all
i figure that at this point anyway, this is a dumb question....but here it goes
a friend of mine is setting up a game room in his club. his idea is to have something like 20 game systems going, including a couple of PS2 systems.
that gave me an idea....since so many of the game systems our there have multiplayer and online capabilities, is it possible to set up some sort of LAN to play online games like you could with a couple of computers?
it doesn't matter to me which systems get hooked up....saturn, playstation, dreamcast, playstation 2, xbox....all i want to know is if it is possible and what games could i do it with
the other possibility is to try to figure out how to set up a game server and have all the systems "call" into it to arrange multiplayer games.
any thoughts?

a lot of online capable games have LAN functionality.
i dont think there are too many that allow a ps2 connect to an xbox tho..
as for game servers, not gonna happen. unless you reverse engineer their server software or they decide to release it..

I've heard that it's possible to hook up a 2 xbox's together, not sure if anymore though.
Not sure about PS2..

BGnome, can you tell me which PS2 games you know of have LAN functionality, and what i would need to make it work
thank you

hmm...interesting...but i was thinking more along the lines of Socom and maybe Evercrack, er, quest....also on the upcoming PS2 model they took out the firewire connection...since i can't guarrentee what ps2 system models i'm getting or if there will be a way to add in the firewire connection again afterwards, i'm not sure if this is what i want to do just yet.
anyone have info about possibily hooking up 3 or 4 ps2 systems for some games?
thanx

everquest won't work... the sports games that have online capabilities will work... tonyhawk 3 and 4 will work... um... I believe tribes aerial assault as well.
as for xbox.. you can connect up to 16... it is a great lan party system as most games work together... ooooh halo lan party... *drool* Mech assault, ghost recon, time splitters 2, tony hawk, about any sports game, unreal championship... all work!
If you need to choose one or the other... XBOX pretty much rocks ps2 for network/online/sports games... but ps2 beats it in about every other catagory. If you want the best in network gaming, get PC's...
