  1. #1 LA6508 Original? or Clone version?
    syntaxer Guest
    Hey,

I got a few v9/v10 dead consoles sitting on the side waiting for my promise to finally look at them one day. At the time i fully troubleshot them and came to the conclusion that the LA6508 was certainly dead but decided to put them aside.

    Now i have to decide,

Should i purchase the original LA6508 and go about replacing the chip and possibly risk having the same outcome? or does the clone LA6508 on PCB assembly fix the heating up problem and is truely the right solution?

Any LA6508 replacement tricks i'd appreciate tons! thx

My personal experience is better to buy the original a LA6508 and do the Romeo mod ,
And if La6508 is ruin you got to know you have to change the laser coils or the whole lens most of th times LA6508 is damage cause the laser coils

yea, unfortunantly i'm aware that the LA6508 is contageous will most likely require me to spend some time on the coils etc.

    9HOMERSIMPSON9,

If i go with REPLACEMENT LA (RII) and my coils are damaged from the previous burnout, will the REPLACEMENT LA (RII) just fix everything? does the (RII) assembly contain replacement coils etc?

No replacement LA comes with coils. You will still require a replacement laser unit.

The replacement is designed to work from 5V, not the original 12, so it won't happen again.

I'd use the one Hommer suggested. I used them and ALL work fine without any problem. (I have no clue what could that do with the modchips, anyway) The BA is MUCH more tolerant, no need for Romeo tricks and in many cases the burnt coils also worked !!! (with originals and QUALITY backups)

can you replace the coils yourself? or are you forced to puchase a new laser assembly?

Ive been searching lik-sang and found a few parts that i'm questioning regarding coil replacement. Which one is the right way to go?

You need none of these. (as one is the pot, and the other is the circuit with the laser diode) I doubt that you could buy coils anyway, except desoldering them from a non working laser (with a dead laser diode, or lens). The coils as I said can be desoldered and resoldered but it's a hard work. A new laser is easier but if you can replace the coils, it's much cheaper. (of course GOOD coils are needed)

    regards, Stephen
