LA Syndrome –
09-23-2004,07:58 PM
Hey guys, I just did a v9 with a duo2. Works perfectly but I didn't do that mod where you solder that pin to a 5v source to prevent the LA chip from burning out.
Im probably going to take it apart, but I was wondering, can I just solder the wire to that peg, or do I HAVE to lift it up and slide it under. If I still have to lift it, do I just slide it and close it or do I still have to solder it?
Thanks

There is no sliding involved. All you do is lift the pin up then solder a wire to that pin to a 5v source.

Is it possible to just solder to that peg thing, without lifting the peg?

Uhm no... Do you want 12V and 5V line to go in your LA chip? You will surely burn the chip that way.

And be careful when lifting that "peg thing' (it is called a pin),you don't want to rip it right off just lift it slightly so it is not touching the pad underneath and thus is not active. Then you will be wiring this pin to a 5v point so it draws 5v instead of the 12v that it was originally connected to,which can save the laser when it tries to draw full power in times of stress such as attempting to read a damaged disc or one with incomptable dye type/poor reflectivity.
