khs-400c dvd reading problem
khs-400c dvd reading problem –

Hello!
I have troubles with two khs-400c lasers i have. They read cds fine but they wont read andy dvds. I have measured both the focus and the tracking coil. And they both show 5.3 - 6 ohm. I have also adjusted the dvd pots to almost every value between 1000 - 1900ohm, opend the lasers and cleaned them, but the damn lasers wont read dvds, they read cds just fine.
I have tested the lasers on a modded ps2 and an unmodded with same result. Is there anyone here who can tell me why the lasers wont read dvd. For the last two days i have tried almost every method suggested by the clever forum member here but nothing seems to help. Am i doomed to buy a new khs-400c laser, or have i missed something.
Thanks for any suggested help!!

Are these brand new lasers?
Ok, I don't know if turning the dvd pot to 1900 ohms was the correct thing to do cause that will probably prevent the laser from reading anything. I don't know if that will damage it in any way. What ps2 version does this khs400-c come from? You know that the lower the ohm value the stronger the laser can read right? 1000 ohms and it's still not reading dvds does not surprise me if this laser is coming from a v4-7. Try 800 ohms if you have to. Burn slow to good media such as Ritek, Verbatim, or Taiyo Yuden.

or you could be missing the dvd angle screw in the lasers.

Hello!
First of all i wanna thank i guys for trying to solve my problem. The lasers are used one. One of them is from a V9 and the other one is from a V5. I have tried them both on a V5 and a V9(with romeo fix) with the same result. As i told u before both of them shows a tracking and focus value of 5.3 - 6 ohm. So they arent melted i think. I will try to go lower then 1000 as suggested to se if it helps.
I dont think i am missing any "angle screw". Where can i find it?

dvd diode is burnt out. dvd lasers have seperate dvd and cd lasers,
your cd laser diode still works so you are able to read cds, but your
dvd laser diode has failed. happens pretty regularly on ps2s...

"shanefra" i think you are right. That i have a failed dvd diode. So one last quetsion. Is there anything i can do to fix it, replace it maybe. If not i guess i have to buy a new laser. Nothing i can do about it. shit happens. Once again thanks for your help.

yes, you can fix it by replacing the laser diode. the problem is that the diode for 400C is hard to find.
