i need to ask a few questions:
1. with the v0, does the ps2 logo show up when booting games? backups, imports and originals?
2. can you play import, backup import, and backup psx games ok?
3. kenshinhimura, booting the ps2 with memory card not inside with bb unit, can any HDD games detect the HDD after you boot them? like kingdom hearts? final mix? final fantasy x international/jap?

3. No - you need the System Driver that initializes the HDD for it to work
DMS does everything as well, with some minor problems with import PSX....but that's the way the v0 were...they did things differently, but better HDD support.
Da Brass has given you the answers to 1 & 2 that I would have given.
#3 is beyond my ability to answer.
I would recommend you to get a external bb unit. It comes with a hdd and PlayStation BB Navigator 0.30. It also has a networking card for it. If you do this method then you wont have to use the hdd drivers. You can even surf the web and read e-mail. Import Stores have it if you live in the USA. If you live in japan you could find it locally. BTW, External BB units are more expensive than the internal counterparts. Please check out the links below if you live in the USA. If you are going to order from ncsx you have to register for an account there.

Edit: You will need the hdd utility disc to install your new external bb unit.
Actually, you're wrong there. Without the System Driver present, the HDD won't get initialized by the system, hence, no recognition by the system.Quote:

Even if you have the external plugged in, unless the system driver is present, the drive lights don't come on.
I'm talking about something like Kingdom Hearts which after starting will allow you to install it on after initializing, as the disc itself contains the drivers, HDD.IRX, etc.
It'll contain the ATAD.IRX, but you'll get varied results. Some may detect, some may not. I know my tests with Beatmania II DX 4th style with HDD support would not let me install to the HDD, unless the HDD was initialized prior to boot up.Quote:

But DaBrass, didn't you say before that the ps2 logo or something did not show up properly on your modded unit? and that only originals and backup jap games would work and imports/backup imports will fail to boot?
Please elaborate on this.

With my machine I can do the folowing:
PSX Originals = OK
PSX Import Originals = NG
PSX Original Backups = OK
PSX Import Backups = NG
PSX Steath Protected = NG
PS2 CD Originals = OK
PS2 CD Original Imports = OK
PS2 CD Backups = OK
PS2 CD Import Backups = OK
PS2 DVD Originals = OK
PS2 DVD Import Originals = OK
PS2 DVD Backups = OK
PS2 DVD Import Backups = OK
DVD Movie Originals = OK
DVD Movie Backups = OK
Basically, the only problems are with PSX Imports (Originals/Backups) and Stealth Protected games (which is common for all chips). The PS2 logo is color-reversed on certain games, but to me, that's no big deal as I use DMS's Fast Boot mode to bypass the logo anyways.
I do have Multi-region DVD capabilities with Macrovision Off and Dev.olution mode to run stuff off mem card.

Also, can you tell me why you think there is this issue with the PSX imports? I sent my ps2 for repair & install to someone, and he said everything worked 100%, i hope he meant PSX backups too.
