Ok I have an unmodded PS2 Slim, installing the MagicV KX+ moday night after I do my friends xbox and after I get off work @ 10PM... anyways, I just installed a 560ohm resistor not sure if it was 5% or 10% value but it is a 1/4 watt. Anyways, whats a good way to test if the laser is gonna burn out or not, I got 2 retail games here, one is my friends copy of Gran Turismo 3, one is my own copy of Kingdom Hearts (Greatest Hits) that I bought the day after I got the Slim ps2 unit. Would running Kingdom Hearts all night until I wake up be a good test?
Solderless Mods and Flip tops are like tampons, every pussy needs one!

In my experience the mechacon is most likely to crash from a fresh power-on from cold. I've had 3 mechacon crashes that have all been from a standing start, I've never seen it on pressing reset, nor during normal operation - although apparently it can happen.
You could keep resetting the console and wait until the Browser screen comes up, with a known bootable disc in the unit. When that happens you know the mechacon has crashed, and you'll find the reset button wont work. Sadly, if the fix isn't working it'll be too late to save the laser by then.
