You should just put a Matrix Infinity in there. It's a little expensive but it's worth the cost.

pretty much any chip will do if all you want is to play backups, as long as the chip is compatible wtih the slim version ps2

Well, do you know excatly what you want to do with the console? Play backups, boot different apps, HD loader, ect??? You should tell us that then there can be an appropriate response to the question, if you only want to play backups then the MI is overkill, and the magic KX plus will be enough in my opinion, but there are other cheap chips to do the job that are just as good...

Don't know about you guys, but in Australia, www.hi-voltage.org have Duo 2's that are re-programmed to work on V12 PS2s. And Duo 2 with autoboot and dev mode. If you buy them in one it says $35 AUD, I have no idea what that is in USD, but that chip looks like it might be worth it.

u could go wiv a cheaper chip (like the magic kX) and it would do what you want

however in the future you may want to do more, and find your chip will not do it

depends how much u like to fiddle

imho booting apps is an important part of it, i cant believe my ps2 wasnt chipped b4

The hdd loader is sooo much better (but u have a v12 - so u cant use hdloader)

so really its up to you, and who is going to install it ?

these guys make it look easy, but i tell you it is definetly not, the pins are so small, and you need an iron with a small tip to even have a hope at success
And how much skill do you have at soldering ??

    200gb Maxtor 7200rpm 8mb hdd

Is your ps2 chipped ?? if not you should do it, you will never turn back

Soldering is easy, practice 1 hour on an old video card, but make sure you have a very fine tip, and don't hold the iron on for more than 1 - 2 seconds. This was all the advice I was given. And nothing wrong so far.

Yes he can, all that he needs is the HD kit, or wire up the ide himself but i would recommend the kit as it is much easier to install and i have to say that it looks better and comes with the power supply for the HDD as well...

But in that case you would want to go to a superior chip like the CC or MI...
